Hoppers Crossing located in the west of Melbourne, approximately 23km from Melbourne CBD.

It’s local government area is the City of Wyndham. Settlement of the area dates to the 1830s when Hoppers Crossing was used as a grazing land.

Surrounding suburbs: Werribee, Tarneit, Williams landing and Point Cook

The suburb is named after the family of Stephen Hopper (1832-1908), who were residents in the area.

In the late 19th century, Hopper’s wife, Elizabeth, was the gatekeeper at the level crossing where Hoppers Lane (Old Melbourne Road) crossed the Geelong-Melbourne railway, adjacent to the present Hoppers Crossing railway station.
